KTM will unveil 'new motocross generation' at Milan motorcycle show - American Motorcyclist Association

From a press release issued by KTM...

The world's first unveiling of a completely new motocross model at the KTM exhibit booth on November 10, 2009 (Hall 18, stand M68), represents a significant step toward "defining new lines." The revealing of the new motorcycle is the next logical step for the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer as its tradition as a result based operation have led to over 160 World Championships and the development of a new motocross model.

KTM takes great pride in the results gathered during international competition in 2009. The MX2 World champion Marvin Musquin, the runner up MX1 World Champion Max Nagel, and of course, the female Motocross World Champion Steffi Laier, have all contributed to, and benefited from the clear and consequent development at KTM.

It is with racing, where the vision of the KTM developers begins. The racing pedigree and ongoing development is key to "defining new lines." There is one man whom this new motocross generation centers on: The Motocross-legend, multiple World Champion and KTM Factory Motocross Team Boss, Stefan Everts!

The new motocross generation to be unveiled at EICMA ensures KTM has, and always will be "Ready to Race"!

Preproduction motorcycle from Lightning Motorcycles - DailyTech

Posted: 22 Oct 2009 07:03 PM PDT

The concept of electric vehicles has been steadily embraced by car manufacturers over the last several years. Tesla Motors has delivered over 900 of their Roadster electric sports cars, while Nissan will start selling the LEAF EV next year. GM is betting the future of the company on the Volt.

Although the focus has been on cars, the quick acceleration and efficiency afforded by electric motors has been noticed by motorcycle enthusiasts. The KillaCycle, built by Bill Dube, has been setting records since 1999. It uses batteries made by A123 Systems, which is working with Chrysler on their EV projects.

Lightning Motors is a new player in the niche market. They are claiming a new world record for production electric motorcycles at a top speed of 166.388 MPH (267.78 KM/h). They've been testing their preproduction bike at the Bonneville Salt Flats of the Great Salt Lake Desert in northwestern Utah.

Unfortunately for them, the KillaCycle set a new world record for electric motorcycles late last month. The official speed as recorded by the National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) was 169MPH (271.98 KM/h).

The KillaCycle has undergone a program of continuous improvement, and there are plans for more. The racing team is already using the latest nano-phosphate based lithium ion cells from A123 Systems, and is planning a 150 pound weight reduction to take the bike down to around 500 pounds. A 60HP increase to 560HP should help lead to more records.

Electric motorcycles still have a large gap with motorcycles using the internal combustion engine. The MV Agusta F4-1000R tops out at 187.726 MPH (302.116 KPH), while the BUB Streamliner Seven set a new overall motorcycle land speed record last month at 367.382 MPH (591.24 KM/h). It is powered by a turbocharged 3 liter V4 engine producing 500 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque @ 8500 RPM.

Martin Cardenas to Race WSS at Portimao - Motorcycle USA

Posted: 22 Oct 2009 05:58 PM PDT

Martin Cardenas of Team M4 Suzuki will race in this weekend's Supersport World Championship finale in Portimao, Portugal for the RES Software Veidec Racing Team. Cardenas, a former Spanish Superstock Champion who spent two years in 250cc Grand Prix, will replace the injured Danish rider Robbin Harms.

"We think the world of Martin and his ability and we're glad to see him get this opportunity," said Team M4 Suzuki Crew Chief Keith Perry. "He's been in that environment before when he raced 250cc Grand Prix and we know he'll be able to perform well. Martin was quick in the 8-Hour race last weekend at Daytona and the hand injury he had at the end of the AMA SportBike season shouldn't be an issue. We're confident he's healed, and he really wanted to ride on the track at Portimao so we agreed to this outing. The team is really looking forward to working with Martin next year and we're all for him getting this opportunity. We wish him the very best this weekend and we'll be watching intently to see how he does."

Cardenas won seven AMA Pro Daytona SportBike races for Team M4 Suzuki, finished on the podium a total of 10 times and remains contracted to Team Hammer, Inc., which currently races as Team M4 Suzuki. At the 8-Hours of Daytona race last weekend, the 26-year old Colombian set the quickest time of the race with a lap at 1:50.8 on a detuned GSX-R600 built to Moto-GT dyno limits.

AMA Racing Amateur National Arenacross Championships will see ... - SuperCross.com

Attention: open in a new window.PDF Print

A new format to determine the country's top amateur Arenacross champions is just one of the enhancements planned for the 2010 AMA Racing Amateur National Arenacross Championships. The series will crown AMA Racing amateur champions in a number of age-, skill- and displacement-based classes at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium on May 9.

"We're excited about the developments in Arenacross for 2010," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "The AMA Racing Amateur
National Arenacross Championships will help provide a solid foundation for aspiring riders to develop their skills on a stadium track. For many riders, this series will become the route through which they achieve their ultimate goal of competing in the AMA Supercross Championship."

The 2010 AMA Racing Amateur National Arenacross Championships will be held the day following the final round of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championship, giving the top amateurs the opportunity to ride on the same track as the world's best Supercross racers. Riders will qualify for a spot at the championship race based on their finishes in regional events. The top four riders from each of the rive regions -- North, South, Central, East and West -- will be invited to compete in the championship.

Also new for 2010 will be the opportunity for the top eight finishing riders in the Expert class to receive an AMA Supercross Lites endorsement. The AMA Supercross Lites endorsement will allow these riders to compete in the 2011 AMA Monster Energy Supercross Lites Championship.

"In addition to improvements to the series for our amateur competitors, we're excited that the country's top Arenacross racers will also be on track at the season finale in Las Vegas in the AX and AX Lites classes," Bromley said. "The competition for the AMA Racing National Arenacross Championship is always one of the most thrilling in motorcycle racing, with the title often coming down to the wire."

The 2009 champions were decided at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as part of the AMA-sanctioned Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open of Supercross. Together with the AMA Racing national champions from all of the other racing disciplines, they will be honored at the season-ending banquet on Dec. 4 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas.
